Prof. Brig. (R) Dr. M. Waseem Khan
Prof. Brig. (R) Dr. M. Waseem Khan is a highly esteemed ophthalmologist with over 40 years of experience. He graduated from Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, in 1981 and earned his FCPS (Ophthalmology) in 1987, passing both parts on his first attempt. In 1988, he trained in Oculoplastic Surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He has served as Head of the Eye Department at major CMHs across Pakistan and retired from PNS Shifa, Karachi, in 2012. He pioneered sutureless Phaco surgery with foldable IOLs at CMH Peshawar, performed Pakistan’s first endoscopic DCR surgery at PNS Shifa, and conducted 28 corneal transplants. He also played a key role in CPSP recognition of CMH Quetta and mentored 22 FCPS trainees, including the first female ophthalmologist in the Pakistan Army.
Dr. Waseem Khan has published 21 research papers, with one ranked No. 1 among the top 20 ophthalmology articles worldwide. He has presented 28 scientific papers at conferences, including the World Ophthalmology Congress 2012. As a CPSP faculty member, examiner, and scientific reviewer, he has significantly contributed to medical education. For his outstanding achievements, he has been awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and a Lifetime Achievement Award. He currently serves as the Principal of SSCMS.
